The Galileo Theater Guild has been working on their annual fall play since September, with constant rehearsals every Tuesday and Thursday. After the performance on October 30th, they will go on to perform at the competition on November 2nd.
The performance will be held at George Washington High School in the auditorium. Tickets for the October 30th show will be $5 per person. However, joining the group to drive to the competition is free of charge.
The competition will be taking place at George Washington High School. The different schools performing will learn what order they perform in, and take the time to warm up and change into costumes. Afterwards, the judges will begin their voting process on the winners. The schools will eventually regroup in the auditorium, where they will receive trophies for various awards.
But what is this play even about? The Thanksgiving Play revolves around performative activism and cultural appropriation. Three “woke” teachers are tasked with creating an elementary Thanksgiving pageant while avoiding offending Native Americans and their audience.
The play has four main characters and an ensemble. The main characters are Logan (Junior Piper “Finn” Fairplay), Jaxton (Freshman Noah Wright), Alicia (Freshman Memphis Moore), and Caden (Junior Allison “Vienna” Murphy).
The ensemble is larger than the cast, with a mix of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The only freshman in the ensemble is Sharon Li. The sophomores are Kloe Marshall, and Eli Perry. Juniors are Israel Anderson, Eliana Gray, Faizah Naveed, and Natalie Benz. The only senior in the play is Noelani Morningstar.
Next week, the crew will join rehearsals. Crew also contains a mix of students. The stage manager is sophomore Annabeth Shadrick. Junior Isabella Ford is in charge of lighting. Sophomore Samantha Van Opstal is the sound technician. Junior Olivia “Ash” Perkins and freshman Gabriella Tiller are part of the backstage crew.
