This year, Galileo became a fully authorized IB school. We have had the DP (Diploma Program) authorization for a few years, but now we also have the MYP (Middle Years Program) authorization. During our advisory sessions this school year, Sophomores were given the task of creating a project that reflects MYP. The projects could be anything the students wanted them to be. Some wrote papers, some did science experiments, and then others created physical objects to bring to school. No matter the project, students came up with their own way of displaying something that meant a lot to them through hard work and a lot of time.

Those who did the MYP projects did very well on it and had a fun time doing it. The freshman class was able to walk through the cafeteria and tour all of the projects on display. The sophomores presented their work and explained what their projects were about. Afterwards, the freshman were able to fill out a reflection sheet where they could comment on their favorite ones and what they might be interested in doing their own next year.

As stated by Sophomore Isabelle Delgiorno, her mother inspired her project. She said, “I was inspired by my mom, who always told me to help people.” She was most excited to show her work to the people she wanted to help. She did a tutoring program. Delgiomo said, “I chose a tutoring program because I realized I was lucky enough to grow up with teachers who actually taught, rather than enforced work. I wanted other people to have a similar class to the one I did.”

In the end, the students had a wonderful time, and everyone was in a good mood. Our freshmen got to see the sophomores show their talents off, and they enjoyed it. We love to see our Falcons fly, and they did so amazingly. We are excited to see what our upcoming tenth graders will come up with next year.
