On Wednesday, October 23rd, Galileo held the Greater Danville Metro XC Championship meet at Angler’s Park in Danville. The event brought together teams from several schools: Bassett, Hargrave Military Academy, Mecklenburg County High School, Halifax County, Chatham High School, Dan River High School, Tunstall, Nelson County, William Campbell Combined School, Magna Vista, and Gretna High School.
The Falcons delivered outstanding performances, with the boys’ team securing first place overall and the girls’ team earning second place. On the boys’ side, senior Daniel Roman-Amarillo led the team with a 4th place finish and a time of 17:10. Sophomore Barak Tahirkhali followed closely, placing 6th with a time of 17:56, while freshmen Luke Bryant came in 7th, crossing the line at 17:58.
For the girls’ team, senior Maya Herndon achieved an impressive 2nd place with a time of 20:41. Freshman Ava Garcia placed 7th with a time of 23:23, and junior Danilu Acevedo-Garcia rounded out the top finishers with a 10th place time of 23:57.
Overall, the Falcons’ strong showing at the championship demonstrated their hard work and dedication throughout the season. With standout performances from both the boys’ and girls’ teams, Galileo continues to establish itself as a competitive force in cross country.
