Drum roll please…… Galileo Magnet High School is set to make an exciting addition to its athletics program by introducing boys’ and girls’ tennis teams. With the growing interest in tennis, these teams are poised to bring a fresh wave of enthusiasm. Tennis is a spring sport, lasting from February to June. Galileo’s student population has a high interest in playing tennis. Athletic director, Mr. Smith anticipates that many students will play, allowing the team to participate in singles and doubles matches. Currently, the search for a tennis coach is ongoing, leaving tryouts and conditioning practice undecided until a later date. There will be only a varsity team, no J.V.
The first practice date for spring sports is February 24th. With the growing interest in tennis and the support of the school community, Galileo will have the opportunity to use local courts at Stratford Tennis Club, Averett University, and G.W. High School. Shuttle buses will transport students to practice everyday of the week, Monday through Friday.
The athletics department will supply necessary equipment, such as rackets and tennis balls. Various apparel items sporting Galileo’s name will be provided to students for practices and matches.
