With elections coming up on November 5th, tensions are high, with Virginians preparing to cast their votes. Here’s what you can expect on the Virginia ballot this year. Of course, the presidential election tops the list, but there will also be votes for House of Representatives and Senate seats, as well as elections for city council election, school board election, and a proposed Constitutional Amendment.
For our presidential election, Democratic candidates Kamala Harris for President and Tim Walz for Vice President will face off against Republicans Donald Trump and JD Vance. Various other parties, such as the Green Party, Libertarian Party, and independent candidates will also be on the ballot.
For the Senate, the ballot features Timothy Kaine (Democrat) running against Hung Cao (Republican). For the House of Representatives, Gloria Witt (Democrat) will compete with John McGuire (Republican).
Next, on the ballot for the Danville City Council election include candidates Shakeva Frazier, “Larry” Campbell, Barry Mayo, Lee Volger, Sherman Saunders, Petrina Carter, Madison Whittle, Maureen Belko, and Felice McWilliams. School board candidates on the ballot are Tyrell Payne, Kacey Cunningham, Corey Williams, Takessa Walker, and Charles McWilliams.
Finally, the ballot will include a proposed Constitutional Amendment. The amendment aims to update the Virginia Constitution to ensure that spouses of military members who pass away (not particularly in action) may remain exempt from certain taxes. The proposal details can be found on Danville’s sample ballot.
