On Wednesday, October 30th, Galileo cross-country teams took to the trails at the Dogwood District XC Championship meet in Nelson County, where they faced off against tough competition from schools across the district, including Altavista, Appomattox, Chatham, Dan River, Gretna, Nelson County, and William Campbell. Fueled by determination and rigorous preparation, the Falcons delivered an exceptional performance, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams proudly securing first place overall in the meet.
On the boys’ side, senior Daniel Roman-Amarillo led the team with a 2nd place finish and a time of 17:46. Sophomore Barak Tahirkhali followed very closely, placing 3rd with a time of 17:47, while freshman Luke Bryant came in 6th, crossing the line at 18:44.
For the girls’ team, senior Maya Herndon achieved an impressive 2nd place with a time of 20:54. Junior Danilu Acevedo-Garcia placed 6th with a time of 23:23, and freshman Ava Garcia rounded out the top finishers with a 7th place time of 23:57.
The Falcons’ remarkable victories at the Dogwood District Championship showcased their dedication, teamwork, and resilience, with each runner contributing to the teams’ overall success. As they celebrate this well-deserved win, Galileo’s cross-country teams now set their sights on future competitions, eager to continue their winning streak and represent their school with pride.
