The Riverview Rotary Christmas Parade is a magnificent parade that is held every year in
Danville. It features many beautiful floats and displays run by local businesses, churches, and
schools. Every year hundreds of people come out to watch the parade, throw
parties, drink hot cocoa, and spread Christmas cheer.
This year the parade will be held on Sunday, December 8th, starting at 5 pm. The parade
will begin at Main and Broad Street and continue down Main Street until they reach Main and Craghead. With the many organizations that participate in the parade, there are always spots people are looking to fill, whether to hand out candy canes, hold flags or sing and dance with their group.
“Serving others for Christmas” is the theme of this year’s parade. All commercial and non-commercial floats in the parade are judged based on their originality, adherence to the theme, and overall excellence, for the chance to win a cash prize of up to $800.
With the street being closed for the parade it is best to arrive around 30-45 minutes before the parade starts, or find close parking. Make sure to bring a nice chair to sit in and a snack in case you get hungry. But above all, make sure you compliment Mr. Carter’s house and all his wonderful decorations.
