This year’s 2025 Grammy Awards held on February 2 had everyone buzzing. There have been many likes and dislikes on who won these awards. The most talked-about winner was Beyonce. This win stirred up lots of backlash. Many people had a lot to say about Beyonce’s album, “Cowboy Carter,” winning album of the year, and not only that but she also won the best COUNTRY album!
Now, some people take this as a huge stretch. Many people on social media, in school, on the radio, etc., believe that she didn’t deserve these awards. Even Beyonce herself seemed shocked! But why do people feel this way?
Some say that Beyonce already has enough albums so it should be given to someone else. This is said in response to Beyonce’s winnings of now 67 Grammys. Some even say that her album wasn’t as good as the others nominated in the same category, so she shouldn’t have received the award because of that as well.
Junior Tori Haley responds to Beyonce’s win saying, “She definitely should not have gotten that. It should have gone to Billie Eilish or Tyler, The Creator.” She mentions that these two artists had more reason to receive Album of the Year. She says, “Chromaktopia was absolutely massive,” referring to Tyler, The Creator’s album. “Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard and Soft” album had charting songs; her song “Birds Of A Feather” was on the charts for 37 weeks.” She says this in reference to World Singles Top 40 that Billie’s song “Birds Of A Feather” did indeed stay on the charts for 37 weeks! “Beyonce’s album played for about two weeks on Tik Tok and then it was gone, so she definitely should not have gotten that. I think it has to do with the whole thing that happened back in September where you had to say ‘Thank you, Beyonce,’” she adds. This refers to a meme in which people on social media make sure to thank Beyonce, is something of a conspiracy theory that proposes that the singer displays tremendous, almost godlike power. In Haley’s conclusion, “I think it was probably rigged,” she says.
With this being said, you can see why people felt like Beyonce didn’t deserve album of the year. It is widely seen that Beyonce received this award for the wrong reasons. But, what do you think?
