Galileo’s speech team may not have taken the top spot, but their voices: Leigha Bray, Rylee Carr, Carla Caye, Mariana Escobar, Piper (Finn) Fairplay, Elicia Gray, Sharon Li, Kloe Marshall, Memphis Moore, Reagan (Victor) Phillips, Samantha Van Opstal, and Noah Wright; left a lasting impact at the Region 1B Speech tournament, earning them a runner-up finish.
Speech Regionals is a competitive tournament held in a specific region. The 1B Speech Regional Tournament has different categories: Story telling, Serious Interpretation, Humorous Duo Interpretation, Extemporaneous Speaking, Impromptu Speaking, Poetry Interpretation, and Original Oratory. Some of the contestants have to prepare a speech before presenting it to the judges, others will have to use their quick wits to create a debate with a random topic the judges throw at them.
For Regionals (Galileo), Leigha Bray placed 4th in Poetry Interpretation, Rylee Carr placed 3rd in Original Oratory, Carla Caye placed 1st in Serious Interpretation, Mariana Escobar placed 2nd in Story telling, Piper (Finn) Fairplay and Kloe Marshall placed 1st in Humorous Duo Interpretation, Elicia Gray placed 2nd in Original Oratory, Sharon Li placed 4th in Impromptu Speaking, Memphis Moore placed 2nd in Extemporaneous Speaking, and Reagan (Victor) Phillips placed 2nd in Poetry Interpretation. Overall, Galileo Speech club were 2nd place!
Super Regionals was at Mathews High school. Super Regionals are people that are going to states. Those people are Rylee Carr, who placed 3rd in Original Oratory, Carla-Caye Dennis, who placed 2nd in Serious Interpretation, Piper (Finn) Fairplay and Kloe Marshall , who placed 1st in Humorous Duo Interpretation, Elicia Gray, who placed 2nd in Original Oratory, Memphis Moore, who placed 2nd in Extemporaneous Speaking, Reagan (Victor) Phillips, who placed 3rd in Poetry Interpretation, and Samantha Van Opstal, who placed 3rd in Impromptu Speaking. Galileo Speech team went up against 6 schools at the super regional. Please wish these people good luck for their upcoming states in March 29th at Salem High school!
Small fun facts at the Regionals: Carla-Caye Dennis beat a senior who has been doing Speech Tournament for 4 years! Way to go, Carla-Caye! At Regionals, Rylee Carr and Elicia Gray almost tied.
