Galileo’s ribbon-cutting ceremony truly was a sight to behold. On December 15th, Galileo Magnet High School held the ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the new home of the Falcons at John M. Langston Campus. This event had been rescheduled due to inclement weather, which is a testament to Galileo’s persistence.
This event gathered attention from more than just the Falcons and Danville Public Schools officials, but many others in the community as well. Dr. Corey Williams, a member of the DPS school board who was in attendance at the ceremony and spoke, has said, “I was very excited to have this beautiful facility that perfectly represents both the bright future of Galileo and the rich history of the John M. Langston campus.” Which, honestly, was very exciting to hear, especially since Galileo has been anticipating the move to another building, and we were expecting it to be much better than the old campus.
This campus is so much better than any of us could have anticipated. Haden Ubelman, a student at Galileo who received an early tour of the campus and gave directions after the ceremony, said, “I was glad I got to see the campus before everyone, and I wasn’t expecting the new campus to be this nice.”
Out of everyone I spoke to, there was a unanimous agreement that the John M. Langston campus was beautiful and perfect for the new home of Galileo, but there was one person who said something a little different from the rest of what I heard.
Assistant Principal Mr. Johnson said, “My first thoughts were this is an awesome facility and really represents the school colors and pride.” When I asked him about his thoughts on the ceremony itself, he said this: “The ceremony went well, the student body was great, and it was great giving everyone a chance to view the campus as well.”
The new campus offers facilities that we’ve never had, such as a gym, auditorium, and library. The students, faculty, and staff are finally able to feel complete as they walk the halls of a “real” high school.
