Every year on October 8th, people all around celebrate National Heroes Day. It is a day to celebrate the people we look to who inspire us. Heroes can inspire us through their actions or character.
Freshman student Ava Garcia said “My hero is my abuelita because she is amazing. She is very kind, puts others first, and is an overall inspiration. She would always help people whenever there was a crisis. One example is when she helped out with Hurricane Helene.”
Another student, freshman Anydasol Acevedo-Garcia said her heroes are her friends. “They know and understand me and are patient with me. We have lots of beautiful moments and all the memories I had with them were bonding and wholesome.”
National Heroes Day can also be a day where we look up to others and try to be great like them. Freshman Alayna Tomkins said ̈My hero is Amelia Earhart. She is my hero because she was the first female pilot ever to try to circumnavigate the world. She was brave and confident in herself and her friend to fly all 25,000 miles across the globe. She inspires me to be a confident and bold pilot.”
Student Memphis Moore said, “My hero is Adriana Lima, Since I was little my desire was to become a model and I’ve always looked up to Adriana Lima because in my opinion, she was the greatest model of all time and no one will ever match her confidence and beauty, and that is why I look up to her.”
Another student, freshman Luke Bryant, said “My heroes are either Willie Nelson or Mother Teresa because they are really good people. I’ve never heard one of Willie Nelson’s songs but he’s got pretty cool hair. It makes my day to see him. Then, Mother Teresa, she’s pretty cool, she does her thing. I am not sure if she is still alive but she was pretty cool.”
Staff also emphasized the importance of educating young people about the contributions of these people. Our beloved principal Ms. Ramsey said her hero is her grandmother or her “mamaw”. “She is my hero because she was just a tremendous lady who was willing to help anybody. She would always put others first, and serve others, and she had a heart of gold. I had so many memories with her growing up. Even as a teenager, I would choose to go spend time with her because she was a joy to be around. Even when I got my license I would drive her to the supermarket and other places to spend time with her.” Our security staff Mr. Dallas said “My hero is my father because I always looked at him as better than any other male. He always told me the beginning of a man is to look like one and to that extent is why he always expressed and encouraged me to achieve physical fitness”.
The significance of National Heroes Day extends beyond just remembering the past; it’s about inspiring future generations and us to embody the same level of heroism. As we celebrate National Heroes Day, let’s take a moment to honor the extraordinary individuals who have shaped our world and continue to us and future generations every day.
